In our society, everybody owns mass-produced items. My shop is not capable of this scale, nor do I want it to be. For me, the essential elements of fine craftsmanship would be lost. My shop can produce something that will last longer, be built better, and exhibit the finer details of a custom piece. Matching wood grain and color, a dresser for an unusually shaped space, a table with a different height to fit a client's body, a built-in bookcase with a display space for a special piece of art... these are traits that are inherent in my work.
The process of designing a custom piece from wood is different with every client. Some people have very specific ideas and are unwavering upon wood species choice and know exactly what type of finish they want. Others turn to my experience for guidance. Most people use a combination of their ideas and my experience to fulfill their goals. Whichever route is taken, clear communication and cooperation are essential.
